Job Summary:
The K-9 Handler is responsible for the training, handling, and care of police canines (K-9s) used in law enforcement activities. The role focuses on maintaining the well-being and effectiveness of the K-9 unit by ensuring proper training, deployment, and handling of the canine partner. The K-9 Handler will work closely with law enforcement officers and other K-9 Handlers to support crime prevention and detection efforts.

3. Handle and control the K-9 during law enforcement operations, maintaining strict adherence to departmental policies, procedures, and legal guidelines.
4. Utilize appropriate techniques to effectively manage and control the K-9 in various situations, ensuring the safety of both the K-9 and fellow officers.
5. Conduct routine maintenance and inspections of K-9 equipment, including vehicles, kennels, leashes, and collars, to ensure their proper functioning and safety.
6. Respond to calls for service, emergencies, and other law enforcement activities, providing support and assistance as required.
7. Document and maintain accurate records related to training activities, deployments, incidents, and any legal proceedings involving K-9s.

Skills and Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in law enforcement or related fields is preferred.
2. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
3. Successful completion of a recognized K-9 handler training program or equivalent experience in handling police canines.
4. Strong understanding of law enforcement practices, procedures, and legal guidelines.
5. Demonstrated ability to effectively control and handle K-9s in various situations, including high-stress and potentially dangerous encounters.
6. Excellent physical fitness and ability to handle physically demanding tasks, including prolonged standing, walking, running, and occasionally lifting heavy objects.
